Academic advisors at the postsecondary level may work within a specific school in a college or university, such as the school of business. At the high school level, they may be assigned to a certain grade or group of students. An academic advisor is similar to a guidance counselor in a school setting, as they are both professionals who serve as educational resources to students.

When choosing a financial advisor , remember that acronyms, designations, and titles are just a collection of letters and words. While their presence can guide your research, they will not replace it. If you are interested in using a financial advisor, the best place to begin your search is with your employer’s human resources department. Many companies offer employees a wealth of insurance and investment options ranging from health insurance to mutual funds in 401k plans , and they retain professional advisors to help their employees make the most suitable choices. In many cases, the companies will subsidize the cost of the advisors if there is a fee. Friends and business colleagues can also be good sources for referrals, many of whom have previously sought financial counseling, estate planning, or investment advice.

The newnan lsa academic advising center exists to support and challenge you as you make decisions about your lsa education. Through individual advising conversations, online resources, workshops, and programs, the newnan center is dedicated to helping you develop your academic plan, working with you to set your professional goals, and fostering your personal, ethical, and intellectual growth. Our academic advisors are available to offer you guidance and support from orientation through graduation.

All students are assigned a college academic advisor during their undergraduate experience. If you have been admitted to the university honors program (uhp), you will be assigned a uhp academic advisor. Your college academic advisor is a professional staff member who serves as your primary point-of-contact for academic planning and questions. Although your college academic advisor will be available to you throughout your undergraduate career, they will primarily work with you prior to admission to your major (we call this “pre-major” advising).

As a new college student, you may have a lot of questions regarding your transition to college life, academics, resources, etc. The professional advisors in the academic advising center are here to help you with this navigation.

The college of letters and science is committed to supporting departments in the mathematical and physical sciences with their undergraduate programs and advising, as well as improving the retention, academic success and career placement of all mps majors.

Advisors help students explore potential majors and interests in the math and physical sciences, explore career options within math and physical science majors, and provide referrals to relevant academic success, tutoring services, and learning strategies resources.

The career & technical advisors provide services to applicants and students to support them in their preparation, entry, retention, and completion of career & technical programs at lcsc.

You may also want to visit the msu career services network to take a career assessment. Advising in a professional school is an important activity. In the academic advising conference, the academic advisor reviews with the student what courses are needed to complete academic program requirements. Career advising provides students with opportunities to discuss a variety of professional topics such as career goals, aspirations, opportunities, and professional practice concerns.

this past spring break, 10 select students from the usc price school of public policy took part in the first-ever new york city trek — a unique, career-focused program that introduces students to the city’s professional landscape through site visits to five prominent employers. Chosen from nearly 100 applicants, the 10 participants experienced the inaugural nyc trek free of cost, thanks to the generosity of usc price alumni david penchoff, mark thompson and several others. The program was organized and hosted by the price school’s office of career services.

Our mission is to facilitate student learning, development, and success through effective and individualized advising & academic services. Advising in the labovitz school of business and economics (lsbe) is an important component of the commitment to a quality undergraduate experience for students. The lsbe advising and academic services office is located in lsbe 111a. Advising allows you to build a relationship with an advisor and get answers to your questions about courses, majors, minors, careers, internships, study abroad programs, student activities, and anything else you may need to know. We work collaboratively with lsbe faculty and coordinate advising activities for students within the school. Lsbe advising and academic services staff members enjoy working with students and are committed to providing you with accurate, timely and friendly service. New freshmen and new transfer students are assigned to a staff advisor from within this office and are later re-assigned to work with faculty in the discipline of their chosen major upon admission to candidacy (upper division status). The advising staff are here to assist you from being a prospective student through graduation.
